Rhode Island Latino News (RILN) is proud to announce its new partnership with the Latino Policy Institute at Roger Williams University (LPI), an organization working to stimulate public policy discourse by examining and communicating the evolving experiences of the Hispanic-Latino community in Rhode Island.

The collaboration between RILN and LPI will give greater voice and visibility to perspectives that aren’t typically heard or seen in mainstream media. The alliance will provide more information and analysis of a community too often misunderstood due to being underrepresented in newsrooms and news coverage.

Marcela Betancur

Marcela Betancur, Executive Director of the Latino Policy Institute had this to say about the partnership: “The Latino Policy Institute at Roger Williams University is excited and proud to partner with RI Latino News to continue our mission of communicating the evolving Latino experience in Rhode Island through research, advocacy and education.”

Hugo Balta, Owner/Publisher of RILatinoNews.com commented on the partnership, saying, “I am grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with LPI, a community leader that shares Rhode Island Latino News’ mission of shedding light on the challenges and opportunities of Hispanics-Latinos through strategic communication and inspiring civic engagement.”

Hugo Balta

The Latino Policy Institute is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. Since its founding in 2005, LPI has been “educating, activating, and motivating community members and stakeholders to ignite positive change in the lives of all Rhode Island Latinos.”.

RILN is part of the Latino News Network (LNN) founded in 2012 by retired journalist, and former president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ), Diane Alverio. LNN launched with CTLatinoNews.com, the first English language local news outlet dedicated to Hispanics-Latinos in Connecticut. RILatinoNews.com launched in October 2021.

This partnership represents the continued need for organizations to pool resources in serving Hispanics-Latinos and other marginalized communities in Rhode Island and the rest of the country.
